What is the Image Grid Splitter?

Split any photo into a clean grid of equal tiles—right in your browser. The Image Grid Splitter is built for Instagram puzzle feeds, carousel posts, sprite sheets, storyboard frames, and any workflow that needs precise, edge-to-edge cuts.

Upload a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF, choose rows and columns (or pick a preset like 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4), and watch a live overlay show exactly where each cut will fall. Remainder pixels are distributed evenly so the tiles always add up to the original dimensions—no gaps, no stretching.

Everything runs locally with the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device. Export as PNG for lossless quality, or JPEG/WebP with adjustable quality, then download individual tiles or all of them at once with numbered or row-column filenames.

How it works

  1. Upload an image
    Drag and drop or browse for a local PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF. Processing stays entirely in your browser—nothing is uploaded to a server.

  2. Choose your grid
    Use a quick preset (2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, and more) or set custom rows and columns from 1 to 12. The live preview draws grid lines and optional tile numbers on top of your photo so you can see the exact cuts before exporting.

  3. Tune output options
    Select PNG (lossless), JPEG, or WebP. Adjust quality for lossy formats. Choose numbered filenames (01, 02…) for posting order or row-column names (r1_c2) for organized asset libraries.

  4. Split and download
    Click Split into tiles. Each tile is cropped at full resolution with remainder pixels spread across the leading cells so the edges stay flush. Download any tile individually from the gallery, or use Download all to save every piece in sequence.

What image formats can I upload?

Any format your browser supports—PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and more. Animated GIFs are handled as a single frame (the first frame).

What grid sizes are supported?

You can choose any combination from 1×1 up to 12×12 (up to 144 tiles). Common presets include 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 2×3, 3×2, 1×3, and 3×1.

How are leftover pixels handled when the image does not divide evenly?

Remainder pixels are distributed across the first tiles in each row and column. The final tiles still meet the original image edges with no gaps or stretching.

Can I download all tiles at once?

Yes. After splitting, use Download all to save every tile sequentially. Each file is named according to your chosen pattern (numbered or row-column). Individual tiles can also be downloaded from the result gallery.

Which output format should I use?

Choose PNG for lossless quality (ideal for graphics and text). Use JPEG or WebP when smaller file size matters; both support a quality slider from 50% to 100%.

Does the tool resize or crop my image before splitting?

No. Tiles are cut directly from the original pixel data at full resolution. The only change is the division into equal (or near-equal) rectangles.

Is this tool good for Instagram puzzle grids?

Yes. A 3×3 split of a square image produces nine seamless tiles. Number them and post in reverse order (bottom-right first) so the full image reassembles on your profile.

Can I split a panorama into vertical panels?

Absolutely. Set 1 row and 3 (or more) columns to slice a wide image into equal vertical strips for carousels, multi-panel prints, or social layouts.

Are there file-size or resolution limits?

Limits are set by your browser and device memory. Most modern browsers comfortably handle images up to several thousand pixels on each side. Extremely large files or dense grids (for example 12×12 on a 8K image) may take longer or use more memory.
