Online Ruler

Reading an online ruler works exactly like a physical one once calibrated. The tick marks show centimetres (major) and millimetres (minor) when using metric units. Switch to inches if you prefer an imperial scale. Simply drag to measure — the digital ruler does the math for you.

Select “Centimeters” from the unit dropdown. Calibrate the ruler with a known object (e.g. a credit card = 8.56 cm) so the software knows your screen’s pixel density. After calibration, all measurements are displayed in cm.

Choose “Inches” as your display unit. The same calibration process applies — once your screen is calibrated, the ruler and measurement lines will show inches. You can also use an object with a known inch size during calibration.

Accuracy depends on correct calibration. When you precisely match the reference bar to the real‑world object, the tool’s measurements are highly accurate (typically ±0.5 mm). Always recalibrate if you change screens or zoom levels.

The measurement tool measures the straight‑line distance between the start and end point of your drag (Euclidean distance). For curved lengths, you would need to break them into straight segments and sum the measurements manually.

Every screen has a different pixel density (PPI). Calibration tells the tool exactly how many pixels represent one millimetre on your specific display, so the measurements translate correctly to real‑world lengths.

Pick a standard object you know the exact width of. Common examples:

• Credit card / ID card (85.6 mm)
• US Dollar bill (156 mm)
• A4 paper (210 mm) Alternatively, measure your object once with a real ruler and enter its width under “Custom”.
