Ovulation Calculator
Estimate ovulation window from cycle length
Updated
What is the Ovulation Calculator?
The Ovulation Calculator helps you identify your most fertile days so you can plan a pregnancy or better understand your menstrual cycle. By entering just your average cycle length and, optionally, the first day of your last period, the tool pinpoints your estimated ovulation day, fertile window, and next period—even an estimated due date if you conceive.
Whether your cycle is 21 days or 35 days, the calculator adapts to your personal pattern. The visual cycle‑day grid makes it easy to see at a glance when you’re most likely to be fertile, while the copy‑to‑clipboard summary lets you save or share the key dates instantly.
All calculations happen in your browser—no data is sent anywhere, so your health information remains private.
How it works
The ovulation calculator relies on a well‑established biological fact: after ovulation, the luteal phase (the time between ovulation and the next period) is fairly consistent for each woman, typically lasting 10 to 16 days, with 14 days being the most common average. The length of the first part of the cycle (the follicular phase) can vary, but the luteal phase remains stable cycle‑to‑cycle.
How the calculation is done
- Cycle length (the number of days from the first day of one period to the day before the next) is entered.
- Luteal phase length is either set manually (if known) or defaults to 14 days.
- Ovulation day is computed as:
ovulationDay = cycleLength - lutealPhaseLength
So in a 28‑day cycle with a 14‑day luteal phase, ovulation occurs on day 14.
- Fertile window is then defined as the six‑day interval that ends on the day after ovulation. Since sperm can live up to 5 days and the egg survives about 24 hours, the window spans:
fertileStart = ovulationDay - 5 fertileEnd = ovulationDay + 1
- If a last period start date is provided, all cycle days are mapped to calendar dates. The next period is calculated by adding the cycle length to that date.
- When requested, an estimated due date (EDD) is calculated using Naegele’s rule: 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of the last period.
What the visual grid shows
The circle of squares represents every day of your cycle. Darker squares mark the fertile window, and the solid pill highlights the predicted ovulation day. Hovering or tapping a square reveals the exact date (if you provided a period start date), making it easy to plan ahead.
The tool never relies on external APIs—everything runs locally, delivering instant results without compromising your privacy.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the ovulation calculator?
How accurate is the ovulation calculator?
The calculator gives a close estimate based on the assumption that your luteal phase is consistent. For many women, ovulation occurs within a day or two of the predicted date. However, cycle irregularities, stress, illness, or hormonal fluctuations can shift ovulation. For the most precise timing, combine this tool with ovulation predictor kits, basal body temperature charting, or cervical mucus monitoring.
What if my cycles are irregular?
What if my cycles are irregular?
If your cycles vary by more than a few days, the predicted ovulation day may be less reliable. In that case, you can still use the calculator as a general guide by entering your average cycle length. For irregular cycles, consider measuring your own luteal phase length using ovulation tests or temperature tracking and entering that value to improve accuracy.
What is the luteal phase and why does it matter?
What is the luteal phase and why does it matter?
The luteal phase is the time from ovulation until the start of your next period. Its length is usually fixed for each person (commonly 12‑14 days). Because it doesn’t change much, knowing your luteal phase lets you pinpoint ovulation—even when the first part of your cycle fluctuates.
Can this calculator predict my baby’s due date?
Can this calculator predict my baby’s due date?
When you enable the “Show estimated due date” option and provide a last period date, the tool calculates an estimated due date using Naegele’s rule (280 days from the first day of your last period). This is the same method used by many healthcare providers, though your actual due date may vary.
How do I use the calculator if I don’t know my luteal phase length?
How do I use the calculator if I don’t know my luteal phase length?
The default setting of 14 days works well for the majority of women. If you have a typical 28‑day cycle, ovulation is assumed to occur around day 14. The tool also shows the fertile window, which accounts for a small margin of error. As you learn more about your cycle, you can adjust the luteal phase length for even better results.
Is my information stored or sent anywhere?
Is my information stored or sent anywhere?
No. All calculations take place entirely in your browser. The tool does not collect, save, or transmit any health data—your cycle information remains completely private.
How do I find my average cycle length?
How do I find my average cycle length?
Count the number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. Do this for several cycles, then calculate the average. Most cycle‑tracking apps also provide this average automatically. Using at least three cycles yields a more reliable average.
Can I use this calculator to avoid pregnancy?
Can I use this calculator to avoid pregnancy?
The ovulation calculator is designed for fertility awareness and conception planning, not as a contraceptive method. Cycles can be unpredictable, and sperm can survive longer than expected. For pregnancy prevention, consult a healthcare professional about reliable birth control options.
