What is the Repeated Words Finder?
Writing clearly requires more than just good grammar—it requires variety. Relying too heavily on the same vocabulary can make your writing feel clunky, repetitive, and unprofessional. Whether you are drafting a novel, polishing an academic essay, or optimizing a blog post for search engines, monitoring your word frequency is crucial.
The Repeated Words Finder is an advanced text analysis tool designed to scan your documents for duplicate words, redundancy, and structural repetition.
Why Use a Repeated Words Finder?
- Proofreading & Editing: Instantly spot accidental double typings (e.g., "the the") that your brain naturally skips over when reading your own work.
- SEO Optimization: Monitor keyword density to ensure you are naturally integrating target phrases without triggering "keyword stuffing" penalties from search engines.
- Creative Writing: Expand your vocabulary by catching crutch words you unconsciously reuse throughout your chapters.
- Academic Writing: Maintain a professional and varied tone by eliminating redundant phrasing.
Stop relying on manual skimming. Paste your text to instantly visualize your word distribution, pinpoint overused terms, and export your density reports with a single click.
How it works
The Repeated Words Finder operates entirely in your browser, parsing your text locally for maximum speed and privacy. No data is ever sent to a server.
1. Choose Your Analysis Mode
The tool offers three distinct scanning algorithms tailored to different writing needs:
- Global Word Density: Scans the entire document to count the total occurrences of every single word. Perfect for SEO keyword analysis and finding overused vocabulary.
- Consecutive Duplicates: Scans strictly for identical words placed right next to each other. This is highly effective for catching typographical errors (like "when when you").
- Proximity Scan: Looks for words that repeat within a specific range (e.g., repeating the same word twice within 5 words). Great for fixing clunky sentence structures.
2. Configure Your Filters
Refine your results to eliminate noise:
- Ignore Stop Words: Check this box to automatically filter out common English words like the, and, is, at, which, on, so you can focus on meaningful nouns and verbs.
- Case Sensitivity: Toggle whether "Apple" and "apple" should be counted as the same word or distinct entities.
- Minimum Word Length: Filter out short, non-essential words by setting a length threshold (e.g., only scan words longer than 4 characters).
3. Review and Export
Once you input your text, the tool instantly highlights duplicate words in the live reader viewport. Click on any highlighted word or item in the sidebar to isolate all its occurrences in your text. When you're done, you can copy your frequency report as plain text, a CSV sheet, or raw JSON for external use.

Frequently asked questions
What are "stop words"?
What are "stop words"?
Stop words are the most common functional words in a language, such as the, is, at, which, and, on. In text analysis and SEO, these words are usually filtered out because they don't carry significant semantic meaning. By enabling the "Ignore Stop Words" toggle, the tool hides these structural words so you can focus on the actual vocabulary and keywords in your text.
Can this tool find typos like "the the"?
Can this tool find typos like "the the"?
Yes! The human brain is notorious for auto-correcting consecutive double words, making them incredibly hard to spot during manual proofreading. By switching the tool to Consecutive Duplicates mode, it will exclusively scan your text for identical words that are typed right next to each other.
Does the tool ignore punctuation?
Does the tool ignore punctuation?
Yes. The parsing algorithm safely strips out commas, periods, quotation marks, and other standard punctuation marks so that words attached to the end of a sentence (e.g., "word.") are properly matched with words in the middle of a sentence (e.g., "word"). However, it preserves internal hyphens and apostrophes so that words like "don't" or "state-of-the-art" are treated correctly.
Is my text data kept private?
Is my text data kept private?
Absolutely. The Repeated Words Finder processes everything strictly on your device using client-side JavaScript. None of your text, articles, or essays are ever uploaded to an external server or stored in a database.
What is the ideal keyword density for SEO?
What is the ideal keyword density for SEO?
While SEO algorithms are always evolving, most content strategists recommend a keyword density between 1% and 2%. This means your primary keyword should appear about 1 to 2 times for every 100 words. Anything significantly higher risks being flagged as "keyword stuffing," which can negatively impact your search engine rankings. You can use the Global Word Density mode to monitor these percentages in real-time.
