Unlike most online dictation tools, this site never sees your audio or your transcript. Recognition runs through your browser's own built-in speech engine — nothing is uploaded to, stored on, or processed by this site's servers, because it has none in the loop.

How it works
1. Choose your language
Pick your spoken language from the dropdown — over 40 languages and regional accents are supported. You can change it any time; recognition restarts automatically with the new setting.
2. Click the mic and speak
Click the microphone button and allow microphone access when your browser asks. Start talking — your words appear in the transcript box within a second or two, first as italic "live" text while the engine is still processing, then as finalized text once it's confident.
Continuous mode (on by default) keeps the session running indefinitely, automatically restarting recognition in the background whenever the browser's speech engine times out — so long dictation sessions don't get cut off. Turn it off if you'd rather have recognition stop after each pause.
3. Edit as you go
The transcript is a normal, editable text box at every stage. Fix a misheard word, add punctuation, or delete a false start directly — no need to re-record.
4. Copy or download
Once you're happy with the result, use Copy transcript to grab the text, or Download to save it as a .txt file with the recording duration and word count included in the header.
Behind the scenes
The tool uses your browser's native Web Speech API (SpeechRecognition). Your browser handles the actual recognition — Safari can do this fully on-device, while Chrome and Edge send the audio to their own speech service (Google's or Microsoft's) to convert it to text. Either way, this site has no backend in the loop: your audio and transcript never pass through or get stored on its servers.

Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have the most reliable support. Safari works too, with on-device recognition on recent versions. Firefox does not currently implement the Web Speech API's recognition feature, so dictation won't work there.
